Elementary Art Show Benefits Animal Shelter

The artistic skills of Center McMechen Elementary students are being used to benefit a local animal shelter. During the month of October, fourth and fifth graders came up with original creations to be “sold” during the school’s first-ever “Shelter Pet Art Show.”

Family members, faculty, staff and local community leaders gathered in the school’s gymnasium Friday afternoon to “buy” the artwork; however, no money changed hands. Old-fashioned bartering took place. Drawings were “purchased” with donations of dog or cat food, treats or toys. Any supply that can be used at the animal shelter was traded for the students’ crafts.

The Center McMechen Mustangs are proud they could help out their furry friends at the Marshall County Animal Shelter while sharing their talents with others.
