Moundsville Police Officers’ Beards Help Students

Moundsville Police Chief Tom Mitchell has announced, “We’re not shaving till December!” But why?

It’s being done to bring awareness and raise funds for the “Weekend Meal Program” at Central Elementary School. Moundsville Police Officers will be accepting donations for their beard growth during the month of November.

Central Elementary School Counselor Jenna Dompa estimates the program costs $500 per month to send approximately 60 children, in grades 3rd through 5th, home once a week with food supplies. Each student is given enough food to get them through the weekend. Students at McNinch Elementary School and Moundsville Middle School currently have a similar program in place. The program’s success is based solely on funding.

The Moundsville Police Department is attempting to fill this gap. Each officer is asked to secure $50 in donations for this cause. Officers who secure $500 or more, can refrain from shaving until January 1, 2020.

Donations can be dropped off at the Moundsville Police Department headquarters or sent by mail to 608 Tomlinson Ave, Moundsville West Virginia, 26041.
