Board of Education Offices
The Marshall County Board of Education met in special session Monday, November 26, 2007, 7:30 p.m., at the Offices of the Board of Education, all members having been notified of business to be considered.
Present were: President Roger A. Lewicki; Vice President David L. Hall; Members Lori E. Kestner and Thomas E. Gilbert, Jr.; Assistant Superintendent W. Wayne Simms; with Secretary Alfred N. Renzella and Member Mary Ellen Komorowski being absent.
A closed hearing was requested by the parent of Student Discipline
Action 07/08-07.
President Lewicki announced that the Board would go into a closed
hearing for the expulsion of SDA 07/08-07.
President Lewicki acted as Hearing Officer.
Present were: Jodi Douglas, Attorney with Wilson & Lantz, representing the Administration; Jack Cain, Principal at Cameron High School; Bradford Hartley, Director of Attendance & Discipline; Michael Dougherty, Deputy Sheriff/CHS Prevention Resource Officer; student, parent and aunt of SDA 07/08-07.
Motion by Vice President Hall, seconded by Mr. Gilbert that the Board go into a closed hearing for the expulsion of SDA 07/08-07. Motion carried.
Superintendent Renzella’s recommendation to the Board is that SDA 07/08-07 be expelled for the remainder of this school year. Dr. Susan Jones will contact the parents of SDA 07/08-07 to set up Alternative Schooling.
Motion by Mrs. Kestner and seconded by Mr. Gilbert that Student Discipline Action 07/08-07 will be expelled from Cameron High School for remainder of this school year. Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. Gilbert, seconded by Vice President Hall that the Board come out of closed session and return to special session. Motion carried.
This falls under the habitually violating school rules and policies
West Virginia
Code 18A-5-1a, the Safe School Statute.
As with all expulsions, the student will not be permitted to attend
extracurricular
functions associated with Cameron High School during the length
of the expulsion.
