The teachers have alternative cerifications and have been trained in passive restraint techniques. Lunch and trnsportation are provided.

The day program is limited to 10 student. In addition to intense educational strategies, the students are also given the opportunity to engage in credit recovery classes to recoup past course credits. A key component to thsi program is a positive support system that includes an individual reward system.

The development of social skills needed to succeed in regular education and the workforce is also stressed. While attending GAC, students may also attend classes at the home school.

Should the student violate the behavior contract, a meeting will be held with the school of origin to discuss service deliveries, alternative environments, and reinstatement opportunities.

Transportation is provided by the parent.
The goal for all students is to acquire the skills to be successful in the GAC Day Program or regular education.
Should the student not find success in the night program, they would be referred to their home school for determination of a more appropriate out of school environment opportunity.

  Referral Process

Referrals for entry into the Gateway Achievement Cener are amde by the SAT Team of the student's home school. Upon receipt of the referral packet by the GAC Review Team, a meeting is scheduled with the school of origin, parent, student, and related agencies to determine if the Gateway Achievement Program would be an appropriate placement for the student. The GAC Review Team is comprised of the Director of Special Programs, Transition Coordinator, School Psychologist, Truancy Officer, and Gateway Achievement Center Principal.

Should it be determined that placement at Gateway Achievement Center is in the best interest of the student, the following will occur:

*Behavior contract is completed by student and parent
*Memorandums of understanding are signed between parent, home school, and the agencies providing services to the student.
*Textbooks are provided by home school
*Counselor from home school remains as the student's counselor
*Case Manager from home school will continue in that role for students receiving special education services.
