| The
building on Second Street use to be the location of the
sewing supplies store that classmate Joe Komorowski's mother owned and
operated and was called the Towne Shoppe. It was used as the office of
the Orthodontist Andrew Tatich, MHS Class of 1963 until he retired. It
is now the offices of orthodontist Doctor Palma, D.M.D. and Doctor
Shane
Helms, D.D.S. The building is on Second Street behind where the old State Food Store that was on the corner of Second and Jefferson Avenue. (Present location of Gregg's Market) A phone call to Joe lead to lots more clues to spark the memories of the days long ago. Joe said his dad, Joe that drove school bus and worked at MHS as a custodian, and two uncles built this building that was finished in 1947 with the intent of it being an Oldsmobile Dealership. Without the connections in the automobile industry, in 1948, they turned the store into the sewing supply store that we knew it as until 1974. The father of classmate Elaine Tatich Koontz, Andy Tatich class of 1963, and Dan Tatich class of 1966, had an auto repair shop in the back of this building. Doctors Palma and Helms contributed to the 2005 Alumni Booklet fund. |
