Young Writers
 
 
 
 


Every year children throughout West Virginia are encouraged to submit a sample of their creative writing for a state-wide contest called Young Writers.  First and second grade students can submit essays up to 100 words in length.  Third and fourth grade students may write essays up to 300 words and fifth and sixth grade students may write up to 700 words.  These are judged at the school level and winners advance to the county competition.  Winners from each county then compete for state recognition.  Those winners receive a certificate and attend a Writer's Tea in Charleston, WV, where they meet a famous author.  Winners from Cameron Elementary who have advanced to the state competition are:
(back row)  Emma- 1st Place, 4th grade  and  Amanda- 3rd Place, 6th grade
(front row)   Ashley- 3rd Place, 2nd grade  and  Jennifer- 3rd place, 4th grade
