Sticking Together

"Good night, Mom."

"Good night, Alison."

Suddenly Alison heard a strange yelping. She jumped up to see her puppy Daisy with the tape dispenser on her back. The tape was sticking while she ran, and she couldn’t shake it off.

Alison’s dad tried to calm the dog. Alison joined the chase, knocking over a stack of papers.

"Alison, you’re worse than Daisy, now go back to bed," said her father.

"Okay." Slowly she walked back upstairs. "Daisy is just like me," she muttered. "She’s always getting into trouble even though she doesn’t mean to."

The next day at breakfast the bagels disappeared. Alison found Daisy swallowing the last one.

Later that night, while the family watched a movie, Daisy chewed the living room rug. Alison jumped up to stop Daisy but tripped and spilled her popcorn.

"Sorry Mom," Alison mumbled when she saw her mom’s tears.

The next night at dinner Alison heard something.

"Oh no! I forgot to feed Daisy. She’s eating out of the trash can!"

Later Alison and Daisy went outside to play fetch. When Alison threw their favorite ball, it hit her dad’s van. He was very angry.

That night, Alison let Daisy out one last time.

"Mom, could you let Daisy in soon?" she asked tiredly.

"Yes dear."

In the morning, Alison asked where Daisy was.

"Alison, I called and called, but she wouldn’t come," her mother explained sheepishly.

Alison ran to her room crying. She knew how Daisy must feel. Sometimes she felt like running away, too.

Alison went outside, picked up Daisy’s favorite ball and threw it as hard as she could. Then she heard a jingling sound, like Daisy’s collar. Suddenly Daisy popped out of the woods with the ball.

"I knew you would never let me down," Alison yelled excitedly. "We’re a lot alike. We should stick together!"

Daisy barked her agreement.
