Second Grade has been waiting for our Painted Lady butterflies to emerge. It has been amazing to see the changes our caterpillars have made in the past couple of weeks. By the second week in May our butterflies should be ready to release. We can’t wait!We are extremely proud of our Second Grade readers. They have maintained a strong lead in Reading Counts for the year. They have also made great gains in their DIBLES scores. Our school year has been filled with reading. Way to go!
We would like to say goodbye to our student teacher, Miss Visnick. She has brought energy and enthusiasm into our classroom. She will be missed. We wish her all the best!

Second grade would like to thank all of our special visitors on Grandparent’s / Special Person’s Day. We enjoyed making crafts and spending the afternoon together. We have been practicing for our holiday concert, Fiesta! The Legend of the Poinsettia, on Wednesday, December 7, at 7:00. This month we will be visiting the Dental Clinic to have our teeth checked and learn about healthy foods
Congratulations second grade on winning first and second place in the Reading Counts competition. Mrs. Wood’s class earned 433 points and Ms. Magers’s class earned 391 points. Way to go! We would also like to welcome two new students, Nya P. and Hailey F.
Our new Fundations program has been very successful. Students have taken ownership of their learning by tapping sounds and decoding words. We continue to work toward our goal of reading 90 words per minute. In November, we plan to begin TechSteps lessons using our mobile lab. With TechSteps, students learn how to use Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel. We will also be welcoming grandparents on Wednesday, November 16.
In September, second grade has been working extremely hard in our new Fundations program. Our first unit test was very successful. We have also passed many Reading Counts quizzes. Keep working hard, second grade! We are so proud of you! In October, we are excited about our field trip to the fire station and our Halloween parade. In the next few weeks, we will be starting TechSteps lessons learning how to use
Microsoft Office.
