Third Grade News
 Miss Vani and Ms. Sturgill

May 2012
We would like to thank our third grade students for their great behavior at the Young People's Concert at JM last week.  We encourage all third grade students to participate in the Summer Reading Program.
Westest is fast approaching.  We are working furiously to reteach and reinforce material that has been covered throughout the year.  The year is not over and there is still time to practice and earn more "checks" for knowing their multiplication facts.
We know that with the weather improving it becomes more difficult to concentrate on school.  It is important now more than ever to maintain a schedule and stay focused.  Thank you for your continued support

December 2011

Third grade has been discussing the many things for which we are thankful.  We remember these things as we prepare for the holidays ahead.  Also, we would like to thank our many visitors on Grandparent's/Special Person's Day.  It was a great success and we appreciate you taking your time to visit us.

In this busy season, we are working hard to maintain a regular schedule.  The new science kit is called Changes.  It deals with the states of matter.  Place value to the millions is keeping us busy in math.  After finishing our studies of the oceans and continents, we are moving on to communities in social studies.  During these lessons each student will have the opportunity to design and decorate a state based on the information they are given.

Thanks again for all your support.  Together we can make a positive impact on your child's education.

November 2011

Third grade will be participating in the program for Grandparents' Day during American Education Week.  We are looking forward to meeting many grandparents.

The new science kit is called Changes.  We are studying maps, globes, continents, and oceans in social studies.  Please encourage your children to memorize their multiplication facts.  There is a new school-wide program and the students can earn prizes for knowing their facts.

Tutoring is being offered every Tuesday and Thursday before and after school.  Students are welcome at both sessions.  We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity

October 2011

Many thanks to all who attended Open House.  It was a pleasure meeting you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call.

We have finished our first theme in reading and will spend some time reviewing the skills introduced in the first five stories.  We are also implementing reading centers to help reinforce story skills.

We finished two units in math.  In science, we disected "mock rocks" looking for different minerals.     Please continue to read with your child every day.  Don't forget to check the agendas and Mustang folders for important information.
