“When You Can Read”
When you can read, then you can go
from Kalamazoo to Idaho -
Or read directions that explain
just how to build a model plane -
Or bake a cake or cook a stew -
The words will tell you what to do!
When you can read, then you can play
a brand new game the proper way -
Or get a letter from a friend
and read it . . . to the very end!by Bobbi Katz
Reading is such a big part of every single day! This poem reminds us of the power of reading in our lives . . . it allows us to “go . . . build . . . bake . . . cook . . . play . . . to the very end!” We want to take this opportunity to thank you all for every single thing you do to help the very special young people in your life learn to read. From simply talking to them, to practicing flashcards of words, to reading books to them and listening to them read to you . . . your support is shown to be such an important part of a student’s reading success. And reading success is so closely tied to success in life these days. So thanks for your continued support of reading in the life of your child!
The new EVERYDAY MATH series is now in full swing. Students are busily playing educational games which practice important math skills which are being learned. Both students and teachers are working hard to make the best use of this math series. You should be aware that this series introduces some different ways to add, subtract, multiply, and divide which are good alternatives when a student is struggling to learn more traditional ways of doing math. These new methods will be introduced as options for students at various times throughout the school year. If you have any questions about the new math series or these new ways of doing math at any time, please contact us at school. Both the Title I teachers and your child’s homeroom teacher will be glad to sit down with you to discuss your concerns and questions.
REMINDER . . . Reading Counts is still, unfortunately, not up and running! We hope to begin this program very soon.
