In response to horrific crimes committed by repeat sex offenders,
legislatures in most states have enacted laws authorizing public release
of identifying information about registered sex offenders. These laws are
collectively know as "Megan's Law" or community notification, in honor
of 7-year old Megan Kanka of New Jersey who was raped and murdered in 1994
by a twice-convicted child molestor who lived on her block. Marshall
County Schools recognizes the need to assist in creating community awareness
about such issues and to provide resources for the protection and safety
of our children. Additional resources concerning your child's health
and safety will be added on an on-going basis.
