Rebecca Ryder, an interventionist at Glen Dale Elementary School, has completed her Certified Dyslexia Practitioner Level 2 certification.

To reach this designation, Ryder completed numerous hours of coursework including reading and analyzing many books. She also participated in a few hundred internship and observation hours, including 200 hours of supervised work at the Children’s Dyslexia Center in Cambridge, Ohio. Ryder drove to the center twice a week and tutored two students each time.

The accreditation goes together with the Orton-Gillingham reading curriculums Marshall County Schools uses of Wilson Reading and Fundations.

“To have someone in the county with this level of expertise is very useful,” explained Marshall County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shelby Haines. “In Marshall County we have trained all our elementary level teachers in Fundations which is also an Orton-Gillingham based program. We have also trained our interventionists and special education teachers in Wilson language, which is a multisensory, Orton-Gillingham program. This certification gives Mrs. Ryder another level of expertise that will be used to help students and teachers throughout the county. This was a lot of extra work on her part, and I commend her for that.”

Ryder was honored by the Marshall County Board of Education members during Tuesday night’s meeting.
