WLES Raises Money for Make-A-Wish Foundation

Washington Lands Elementary School recently held its 7th annual Make-A-Wish Foundation of America fundraiser. Students, faculty and staff surpassed the school-wide goal of $1,200 by collecting $1,939.83.

This year, as a reward for exceeding their goal, 16 members of the Washington Lands Elementary faculty and staff participated in the school’s inaugural “Wildcats Inflatables Races.” Each staff member wore a different inflatable costume and raced each other around the playground while the students cheered them on.

The top earning class, Charlotte Steed’s 5th graders, also earned an afternoon with an extra recess and a movie. Steed’s students brought in $641.95. Rounding out the top four donating classes are Sarah Phillips’ 3rd grade class collecting $491.00, Julie Sheedy’s kindergartners raising $287.00 and Deanne Clutter’s kindergarten class accumulating $260.00.

This fundraiser is organized every year by Steed whose son, Raymond, was granted a wish several years ago.
