The John Marshall Marching Monarchs performed on television Tuesday evening during the 10th annual WTRF 7 Sports Zone High School Football Kickoff Show.
The band was invited to play on the program as a sound track before and after commercial breaks. The band’s performance also kept patrons at Quaker Steak & Lube entertained while the viewers at home watched advertisements on WTRF-ABC Ohio Valley.
JM Band Director Tracey Filben appreciates Channel 7 has offered her students this unique experience for the past several years. “This tradition has become a great way for us to kick off a new football season,” explained Filben. “The band members enjoy being able to display their talents to a larger audience, in person, on television and online.”

The talented Marching Monarchs will perform during all five JMHS varsity home football games at Monarch Stadium. This year’s halftime show is titled “Red Hot Radio City” and includes the following selections: Higher Ground, Creep and Umbrella Beach. Tracey Filben is the Director of Bands. The 2025 Field Commander is Karly Minch. The drumline captains are Mikayla Kazemka and Wrenleigh Lesnett. The percussion instructors are Nick Bruce and Josh Garrett.
The Cameron High School and John Marshall High School football players and coaches talked to 7 Sports Zone reporters Meg Barry and Jake McGlumphy about the upcoming season on the broadcast, too.
