Taking five robotics teams from Sherrard Middle School to the 2026 VEX Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri is no small feat, and the students rose to the occasion.
Three of the teams finished with non-losing records, and one team fought their way to an impressive 33rd overall. Lil George was just shy of the elimination bracket in their division. That’s competing with the best of the best in the world.
And then history was made. They brought home SMS' second and third worlds trophy ever. SMS has 3 of the 4 worlds trophies ever earned by Marshall County teams.
Lil’ George brought the energy and walked away with the Energy Award, recognizing their unmatched enthusiasm, spirit, and ability to lift everyone around them throughout the event.
The Cinnamon Toast Crunchers earned the prestigious Innovate Award, honoring their creative engineering and unique design solution that stood out on the world stage. This is believed to be the highest-level award ever brought home to West Virginia at the middle school level, marking an incredible milestone. And is one of three all girl teams to win an award at Worlds.
